Tarmac’s Mountsorrel Quarry has joined forces with local charity Love4Life to help provide support for young people aged 11 to 18.
The new partnership aims to support the charity’s vision for a world where every young person knows their worth and is empowered to build a life they love, equipping them with the tools needed to build confidence, resilience and make positive life choices.
The charity specialises in supporting girls through dedicated Love4Life groups, one-to-ones, and workshops in secondary schools and in the community. Sessions explore a range of topics including self-worth, body image and how to handle emotions.
To support this work Tarmac has donated £3,000 to the group to fund these sessions in a secondary school local to the quarry for the 2023/24 school year.
In addition, Tarmac and Love4Life are keen to showcase careers young people might not usually consider – with Tarmac recently hosting a group of students for a quarry tour, which gave an insight into the varied roles available with the company.
Louise Adams, CEO at Love4Life, said: “We are delighted to partner with Tarmac to help support the work we do in the area. We are a small charity run by a dedicated team of youth workers committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. Our belief is that once young people feel good about themselves, they will make positive choices in their health, relationships, and education.
“Working with organisations such as Tarmac really helps us to be able to continue this work, along with giving the girls the opportunity to experience new things and learn from people they wouldn’t usually come into contact with in day to day life.”
Speaking about the visit to the quarry, Tilly Robinson, Leicestershire coordinator at Love4Life, said: “It was great to visit the quarry and to get a tour of the site. It is not every day that you get the opportunity to visit somewhere like that and although you know quarries exist, you are not always aware of what the rock is used for, so it was interesting to learn about how the granite is used in roads, buildings and to maintain the rail network.
“The girls really enjoyed the day, and we are very grateful to Tarmac for its support.”
Rob Lees, senior area operations manager at Tarmac, said: “We are proud to support Love4Life through this new partnership. The work they do is so important in supporting the mental health and well-being of young people in the area, which is something we are also committed to as a company.
“It was great to be able to welcome the girls to the site and show them what we do here. We hope they enjoyed the day.”

When starting these discussions, it was important to all involved that we looked at how we could support the charity’s work through what we do as an organisation, and what we could offer to enhance what they already deliver.
“One idea we hope to bring to fruition is delivering CV workshops and career advice sessions for the students to help them feel more confident when applying for jobs in the future.
“We are excited to see how the partnership evolves and what we can achieve together.”
