The new trail
The Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre opened a new wheelchair-accessible Tree House in November 2025, quickly becoming one of the most popular features with visitors to the site. The Tree House sits roughly halfway along the Heritage Centre’s Adventure Trail, but getting there was proving difficult during wet weather, with the path becoming muddy and impassable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs and prams.
The Heritage Centre got in touch with us at Mountsorrel Quarry asking if we could help, and we were happy to. We donated nine tonnes of fine stone to help create a firm, all-weather finish that meant visitors can now reach the Tree House comfortably all year round.
The first load was laid down by the Centre’s own volunteers in April this year. When the Centre requested a further nine tonnes to finish the job, several members of our team joined their volunteers as part of a corporate volunteering day during Mental Health Awareness Week, getting stuck in to complete the topping off of the path surface.
It was a hard day’s work, and a good reminder of what the quarry’s materials are ultimately for. Once the weather does its work – rain to bind it and sunshine to set it – the path will be open to all visitors and we’re glad to have played a part in making that possible.
Supporting local community projects like this is something the Mountsorrel Quarry team is committed to. If you have a project we might be able to help with, you can get in touch by emailing [email protected].
