Wet and muddy conditions didn’t stop volunteers from Tarmac, Barrow on Sour and A & V Squires carrying out much-needed improvements to the local footpath.
The dangerously sodden and uneven footpath was seldomly used, as the muddy and pitted surface was unsafe.
A local community group, Barrow in Bloom, approached Mountsorrel Quarry to see if they could help reinstate the 100-meter long stretch of path.
The quarry was keen to get involved with the project and agreed to supply the necessary eight tonnes of Mountsorrel’s famous pink granite, along with some electric wheelbarrows. They also managed to rope in local contractor, A & V Squires to support the project by providing a mini excavator to scrape back the existing path.
Trevor Warren, works manager at Mountsorrel quarry said: “It is important to us that we support local projects that benefit the local community. It was great to be able to support this project and make this a virtually inaccessible footpath usable again.”
Annette Richardson from Barrow in Bloom added: “We’re very grateful to Tarmac for actively supporting this project and encouraging other people to do so. The work has significantly improved this footpath link so it can again be enjoyed by many local people. As well as providing materials and equipment, five Tarmac staff and two A & V Squires’ staff joined our work party on the day.
“We’d also like to thank the landlord and staff of the nearby pub, Barrow Parish Council and the local Co-op for their support.”
