Rock Stars: Mountsorrel Quarry Schools Competition 2025

Celebrating our local stone through creativity

Mountsorrel Quarry is proud to launch the Rock Stars Schools Competition 2025, inviting primary school-age pupils from Mountsorrel and neighbouring villages to get creative and tell the story of Mountsorrel’s famous pink granite.

This exciting competition is all about celebrating local heritage, learning something new, and giving children the chance to win amazing prizes while showing off their artistic talents.

This competition is part of our commitment to being a good neighbour and building relationships with the local community. We want to celebrate our local landscape, helping young people understand more about what makes Mountsorrel’s pink granite special and to take pride in their area’s heritage and future.

We can’t wait to see your Rock Star entries!

About the competition

The competition is aimed at primary school-aged children aged 5-11 in the local communities closest to Mountsorrel Quarry - including Mountsorrel, Quorn, Barrow, Swithland, Rothley, and other local villages. We’d like the children to create something imaginative that tells the story of Mountsorrel’s pink granite - its past, present, or future. The theme is broad and fun - and we can’t wait to see how young minds bring it to life!

Your entry could be:

  • A drawing, painting, or sculpture
  • A poem, or a short story
